Florida Vacation with kids

There is a silver lining to all the curve balls 2020 has thrown us! That glimmering gem is virtual learning. Even though it has been an adjustment, I am in that boat with you. Virtual learning means flexibility on vacations, and flexibility means you don’t have to take a vacation around a school schedule. FREEDOM! This means savings on Orlando vacation rentals, less crowds, and a better overall experience.

Is your family ready for a change of scenery? As things cool down we are entering some of Florida’s best months for weather. Good-bye, Hurricane season! Orlando is the best place in Florida to take your family. We offer the largest playground for kids and adults anywhere in the US, in our humble local opinion.

Now that your routine has hopefully settled into place after a crazy start to the school year, if your kids are learning virtually, for the first time you can take that getaway you need anytime. A rental home is a great and affordable way to get that work/life balance while taking a much needed family vacation. Get a taste of living like an Orlando local when you rent your home away from home. Welcome to the “schoolcation!”

WHY WE LOVE THE VACATION RENTAL OPTION

What sets a schoolcation apart from a regular family vacation? You’ll need plenty of space to work AND play. By choosing a vacation rental, everyone can find their own space. Curl up on the couch or by the pool with your laptop while the kids work in a different room (or nearby if you need to keep an eye on things). Many Orlando vacation rentals have dedicated desks or other work spaces for you and the kids to use.

Everyone can have their OWN room including themed rooms for the kids so they have their own magical space. Is your kid a Mickey or a Star Wars fan? You can find themed rooms for all tastes. Plus, luxurious master bedroom and bathroom suites for parents (sometimes you just need some breathing room).

Don’t forget the free and fast WiFi, and a full kitchen. One of the best ways to save is by using that kitchen in your rental to cook a quick breakfast  or some of your favorite family recipes. No waiting in restaurants with a hungry toddler. (Though if you do want to treat yourself Orlando has a great dining scene! Bring home leftovers for an easy dinner the following night.)

The best thing about Orlando is that there are so many great options for home rentals with pools. Yes! That’s right, your own personal oasis! If you are getting some work done, grab your laptop, get a little vitamin D, and let the kids swim while you work. School work needs to get done? What better bribe than “The quicker you finish the quicker you can swim!”  Even in the cooler months you can reserve a home equipped with a heater for the pool. This is Florida, we like warm weather and we like warm pools.

Many homes feature game rooms so you can hang out after dinner and play a game of pool or fussball. And don’t forget your furry companion! Another great thing about a vacation home is choosing from pet-friendly vacation rentals so you don’t need to leave your pet behind.

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SCHOOLCATION

Yes,you’re away from home. Yay! But the kids (and you) also need to get some work done. What are some strategies for a successful schoolcation?

  1. Set Up a Regular Routine: Even ahead of time, discuss your routine and your expectations with the kiddos. Even though you are traveling, you will have a special time when it’s time for school work in your Orlando vacation rental. This is also time for you to get some work done. Is it possible to bring a grandparent or a sitter? There is plenty of room in our Orlando vacation homes. This means you will have someone to help with schoolwork while you can also get work done.
  2. A Special Place to Work: Many homes have dedicated desk space just for working. But even if it’s the kitchen counter, dining table or a nook in the bedroom, set aside a special place for you, and also for your child to work every day. This will signal it’s time to get serious, do the work, and then they’ll be able to jump in the pool when they are done!
  3. Reduce Distractions: This can be challenging when you’re away from home with so many new things to explore. But make sure the TV is off, tablets tucked away (unless they are being used for schoolwork) and the game room or pool are off limits. The fun comes later!
  4. Provide Positive Incentives (also known as bribes): This is the easy part in Orlando! After they finish their virtual learning, they get to…jump in the pool. Or take a trip to Disney World Orlando (book your tickets so you won’t have to wait in line). Or visit one of the many other attractions.  Including Universal Studios Orlando, Sea World, Legoland, Aquatica, the Icon Park and so many more. You can also take a walk to the clubhouse since many Orlando resorts have water slides, lazy rivers, and playgrounds.

A Dedicated Work Space

EVERYONE NEEDS A CHANGE OF SCENERY

So many have been cooped up fo a long time. Even though a schoolcation includes some work for kids and adults alike, it’s a great way to recharge the batteries. Above all have fun, get in some relaxation and enjoy your family time spent together.
