When is the Best Time to Visit Orlando?

Home | Blog | When is the Best Time to Visit Orlando?

We get this question all the time. When IS the best time to visit Orlando? With summers made for exploring, mild winters perfect for holiday celebrations, and theme parks (like Walt Disney World) open year-round, Orlando is one of the best destinations for a family or couples getaway at any time! However, there are some benefits and special highlights throughout the year. Whether you’re looking for shorter lines, cheaper prices, or the perfect weather, you’ll find a few answers to frequently asked questions and then a rundown of what to expect in Orlando during every season.

When is the most popular time to visit Orlando?

The “peak season” occurs in the summer months (from mid-June to mid-August), when there are school holidays, and when the weather is at its best. Popular holidays include Spring Break, Easter, summer vacation, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years’.

When can I avoid the crowds?

September is the slowest month in Orlando. Hands down, if you are hoping to avoid crowds and traffic, it’s the best time to come. January, February, and May are also great months to visit if you’re looking for shorter lines and fewer crowds. Granted, there are currently restrictions in place at all of the theme parks to aid in ensuring social distancing and keeping crowds reduced for everyone’s safety.

How about the weather?

It truly depends on what your expectations are for a great family vacation. Some people don’t mind the hot temperatures during the summer months. If you prefer cooler weather then the best time to visit Orlando is from January to April. There is little rain and the temperatures are pleasantly warm, but not unbearable. The crowds during these months are also fairly low except for spring break and Easter.

When is the best time in Orlando for cheap tickets?

This can be tricky. Ticket prices can vary from one day to the next and oftentimes increase every year. However, prices are typically lower in the slow months and higher in the more popular “peak” months. Want to skip the lines? The Best Time to Visit Orlando By Seasons & Months

Let’s take a look at some of the advantages of each season in Orlando…

Late Winter (January & February)

If you are looking for cooler weather, these are the best months to visit. Yes, you’ll find some crowds, but not AS crowded as spring break months. Remember, Orlando can occasionally get quite chilly. If you are renting a pool home, you may not be able to swim every day. To give you an idea of what to expect, the average high temperate in January is 72°F and the average low is 51°F. Read more about what an Orlando winter vacation is like.

Spring (March to May)

It usually doesn’t get really crowded in Orlando until the second week of June. So if you have some flexibility, consider a May visit to Orlando. However, keep in mind that spring break and Easter weeks are usually more crowded.

Summer (June & July)

Like you read above, the summer months are the busiest time of the year in Orlando! School is out and many families choose to take at least one annual trip while schedules are more flexible. Granted, keep in mind the temperature is very hot and the humidity is high. The average high temperature is around 92°F and the average low temperature is 75°F.

Late Summer (August)

Most Florida schools start back in mid-August. So if you are not a Florida resident, consider planning your trip during the last 2 weeks of August. Yes, it’s hot. It’s Florida. But the crowds are thinner and rates start to drop. It’s a great time to come if you are planning a summer visit.

Fall (September, October & November before Thanksgiving)

Like we said above, September is the slowest month in Orlando. Hands down, if you are hoping to avoid crowds and traffic, it’s the best time to come. October and November are fine too, and you can check out Halloween Horror Nights at Universal, or the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot.

Disney tends to decorate for the Christmas holiday season early. The official launch date this year (2020) was on November 6. So, if you’re looking to get your holiday fix, this is the time to plan your vacation and enjoy all the festivities with low to moderate crowds throughout all of the theme parks.

The Holiday Season / Early Winter
(November after Thanksgiving & December)

After Thanksgiving, the holiday crowds begin to ramp up! Orlando is always a magical place, but it shines so much brighter during the holidays – with elaborate decorations and festive parades scheduled all month long.
