Did you know that the moon determines the date Easter is on each year? If you’ve ever wondered why the date changes, here’s the answer: Easter is held on the first Sunday after the full moon, once we’ve had the spring equinox. That means the holiday falls on April 17th, 2022.
April is a gorgeous time to visit Florida, and in fact, it may be the most temperate time of the year. Not to mention there are an eggstravagant amount of Easter-related events in the Orlando area. If you’re interested, we’re going over what it looks like to celebrate Easter at Disney World in Orlando, as well as fun things to do off-property when you’re not in the parks. Start planning your best Easter ever at the Disney parks below!
April Weather in Orlando
Going to Disney World is a magical experience, but the heat in Florida can make it less so. If you’ve ever been to Disney in the summer, you know that not only are the parks more crowded, but it often gets over 95 degrees every day.
Thankfully, April isn’t like that. Mornings are brisk, with an average low of 66 degrees, which is low enough to be pleasant for an Easter sunrise service but not cold enough to need a jacket. Highs in April are around 84 degrees, depending on the day and cloud cover. That’s pretty good for the sunshine state!
What to Expect When You Visit Orlando in April
It’s no secret, crowds are part of the Orlando experience. Sometimes they are worse, like summer and Christmas break, but they’re a reality no matter when you go. Crowds in April are average, lower on the weekdays than the weekends.
Since kids get up early anyway, the best way to beat the crowds at the most popular destinations is to go when the park of your choice opens. Park transit even starts about 1/2 an hour before opening time to make it easy to get ahead of everyone else.
Epcot’s Egg-stravaganza Easter Celebrations
There’s no Easter bunny at Epcot, but your kids will be able to do an Epcot-exclusive easter egg hunt. Just like the Ratatouille search a few summers ago, your kids will have to find these eggs with their eyes — not their hands.
To participate in the Easter Egg-stravaganza hunt all you need to do is visit a Disney Traders location to buy a map, and return when you’ve found them all!
Things to Do for Easter in Magic Kingdom
If you’re looking for a meet and greet with the Easter bunny, you’ll find him and his wife in Magic Kingdom. Check your Disney Magic app for locations and times.
While there aren’t any official easter egg hunts in MK, you will see pastels and Easter-themed decorations around the park. The spring flower colors surrounding Cinderella’s castle are something you won’t want to miss! Additionally, Magic Kingdom performers celebrate the season with the Spring Trolley Show, often kicked off by the famous Easter bunny couple.
The International Flower and Garden Festival
Disney goes out of its way to make the parks enjoyable for kids of all ages. Parents will appreciate the creative displays of topiaries and flowers that make up the International Flower and Garden Festival. Because Disney never does anything small, they have two scavenger hunt activities along with all the lovely flowers.
Adults and kids can work their way through the Flower and Garden festival-themed food kiosks throughout Epcot’s World Showcase to collect a stamp for each special menu item. Picky eaters and younger kids can work on finding Spike the Bee throughout the park to help them learn about the importance of pollinators.
Maps are (you guessed it!) available for purchase at Disney Traders. If you don’t want to dole out the money, you can always take a picture with each location or let your child snap a polaroid.
Additional Easter Dining at Walt Disney World
If you’re a park lover, you already know that there aren’t a lot of bad food items at Disney. They may be overpriced, but at least they’re good! You’ll find spring-themed treats around the parks, along with traditional menu items. Some on-property restaurants will have a special Easter brunch menu, which you’ll have to use if you go on those dates (usually Easter weekend).
While Epcot has the official spring menu, there’s an Easter cupcake on Sunset Boulevard you won’t want to miss. You’ll find the fast-dining location on the left side (facing ToT), about halfway to the Tower of Terror.
Breathtaking Easter Displays at the Walt Disney World Resorts
One of the things we look forward to the most during the time of year are the magical Easter egg displays! You’ll find them located during various dates at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort, and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort. They typically feature favorite and most cherished Disney characters of all time — think Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan!
Other Things to Do in Orlando for Easter
Most of us can’t afford to spend our entire spring break or Easter vacation at the parks, and two to three days of Disney World is enough to financially and emotionally exhaust any parent. But that’s ok because Disney isn’t the only thing to do in Orlando!
Theme Parks
Universal Studios and SeaWorld Orlando don’t currently have much listed online information about specific Easter 2022 plans as of now. But, they should update information as Easter approaches. We do know that the Universal Studios Florida Mardi Gras celebration won’t be ending until the end of April — and that’s a must-do for any Orlando spring vacation!
Ride The Wheel At Icon Park
Check out The Wheel at Icon Park if you’re looking for a picturesque activity that doesn’t come with a $100+ a day ticket. It’s a giant Ferris wheel that is enclosed for your family’s safety and costs around $30 a person.
Easter Sunrise Services
If you’re religious, you may be weighing the spiritual price of missing Easter service while you’re on vacation. We’re here to tell you that you don’t have to! There are plenty of churches in the Orlando area and official Disney Easter services at rotating resorts.
You can even find an Easter sunrise service close to your vacation home and be back in time to spend your morning in the parks. SeaWorld and Bok Tower Gardens both offer sunrise services in the Orlando area.
Mall at Millenia
If you’re a shopper, then Orlando’s Mall at Millenia is your version of Disney World. They have everything from Prada, to Sunglasses Hut, to Bath and Body Works, along with a host of dining options. If you have a car, you’ll also find outlet malls nearby.
